Remember to take a break
It is so important to get out there and play! We musicians work very hard to play our music to the best of our ability. It can require hours and hours, working mostly alone. After a while we might feel exhausted, frustrated yet inspired that we got to play our instruments for such a long time.
Play is random
Getting out for recreational play can ease frustration in our musical play. After an intense period of practicing, I start to feel like I have lost touch with the outside world. I suddenly want to catch up with friends, have random conversations with neighbors, and walk around town, in and out of shops with no particular goal in mind.
Being a beginner again
Recently I have taken up ballroom dancing. It is so much fun to use my musical skills in a completely new way. I know I have played these dances before but they take on new meaning when I try to dance them. I am a total beginner and still stepping on my partner’s toes. I highly recommend it! Attempting as a beginner to do something I love is reminiscent of those early childhood days, taking my first violin lesson.
