Preparing for a Lesson

Even as a professional musician I take lessons. It has been important to me to establish a really consistent practice schedule dedicated to preparing music that I will play for Clayton Haslop in Sedona next month. With work and other life responsibilites, it has been challenging at times but I have been successful. I am planning to play Kreutzer etudes #32 and 33, Paganini Caprice #5, and the Franck Sonata which I will be recording with Jennifer Elowsky-Fox next summer. The Kreutzer etudes are amazingly challenging but are targeted towards developing specific technical skills. The Paganini is a lot of fun to play and provides a good workout. The Franck can be deeply emotional and even cathartic. A truly fulfilling selection.
