Starting the new school year
It is always a busy time trying to enjoy the last few days of summer vacation while day dreaming about and getting ready for the new season or new school year. It can be a high energy time both from excitement and nervousness. There are things we can do to ensure that our energy is appropriately focused and not burdensome.
What needs to get done vs. when there isn’t a need to rush
I have a tendency to want to get everything done all at once. I want my home studio and classroom at school to be perfectly set up and all of my lessons perfectly scheduled. This year I am purposely letting these things happen more organically. I am teaching in a new school system in which I am still learning its norms and traditions. My private students have always seemed comfortable in my home studio so no need to rush there either.
Next summer is 10 months away
Rather than being a downer, this is a call to action to make sure your summer is complete. School mostly starts many weeks before the official end of summer. Therefore, keep enjoying it and keep doing outdoor activities. Those of us living in an area where it gets cold in the winter will be shut in soon enough. Practicing and studying can still get done even while we enjoy the beautiful weather!
